Bhimtal is famous for its Bhimtal Lake, which is bigger than Naini Lake and offers good boating facilities. Plus, there is an island in the middle with an aquarium located on it. The island is only 91 metres from the lake shore and there is also a Bhimeshwar Temple along with a 40 feet high dam beside the lake that belongs to the 17th century.
Bhimtal supports a wide variety of aquatic life and some Trans Himalayan birds during the winter. Lying at an altitude of 4500 ft, 22 km from Nainital, the lake is surrounded by the Kumaon hills all around. It received its name from Bhima, one of the Pandavas from the epic of Mahabharata.

Ghorakhal Temple
Ghorakal is the place situated in the Nainital district of the Uttarakhand state of India. Ghorakhal means pond for water to horses. It is the picturesque site at the height of more than 2000 mts.
It is situated near Bhowali and is the seat for Army school, known as Sainik School Ghorakhal, established in 1966 at the Ghorakhal Estate of the Nawab of Rampur. The famous Golu Devta temple is situated on a hill above overlooking the school.

Bhimtal Lake
The lake and the dam are located at an elevation of 1,375 meters (4,511 ft) in Bhimtal town in the Nainital district in Uttarakhand. The lake drains a catchment area of 17.12 square kilometers (6.61 sq mi).
According to geologists the origin of the lake is attributed to a number of faults which occurred due to shifting of the earth's crust. This caused blockade of the overland flows and resulted in creation of the lake. The catchment area of the lake, particularly the hills have dense forest cover; the type of forest vegetation consists of chir pine, ban oak and mixed deciduous forests. The basin experiences varying tropical to sub-tropical weather conditions. Precipitation in the basin is very high, mostly occurring during the monsoon period.
The dam was built in 1883 when Kumaon region was under the British Raj following the Anglo-Nepal War (1814–16). Nainital had then been established as their summer capital.The town and the lake are named after Bhima, one of the Pandavas of the epic story of Mahabharata who is said to have visited the place. On the banks of the dam there is an old temple which was built by Raja Baj Bahadur Chand of Kumaon Kingdom during the 17th century.

SATTAL LAKE
Sattal Lake is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes Garud Tal, Naldamyanti Tal, Purna Tal , Sita Tal ,Ram Tal, Laxman Tal, Sukha Tal situated in the lower Himalayan range near Bhimtal, a town of the Nainital District in Uttrakhand, India. During The British Raj, the area had a tea plantation, one of four in the Kumaon area at that time.

NAUKUCHIATAL LAKE
